pandorathon-historical fiction- trip to gateway of india

The most beautiful architecture of Mumbai- Gateway of India
GATEWAY OF INDIA, MUMBAI. Photo by Darshak Pandya from Pexels

It is dawn when the sun peers through behind a flock of birds over this way, Gateway of India. His shadow overlooks my courtyard heart. Over the years since the twentieth century , when he was born out of courtesy to welcome the British monarchs to finally leading his youth to celebrate India’s independence.

He has been an epitome of grace, valour and positivity. Having a grand stature, he has enjoyed the native fishermen company, visits of the royals and ministers and witness to countless army battalions. Even the Arabian Sea loves to walk her way leading to him.

His effervescent presence enticed even the beautiful Taj Mahal Palace to stay just few blocks away. Well, he is quite a gentleman that he smiles and welcomes every visitor and captures their attention, sharing pleasantries of peace and friendship.

Even in times of despair like the bomb blasts of 2003 and terror attacks of 26/11 attack, he stood strong guarding the city gateway and hoping to safeguard the people. He tries to stay away from the hypocrites who flock nearby making false claims to others. This man has been witness to both Highs and lows of society; the festive, the triumphs and also sad incidents like murders and eve teasing.

Today, while he is surrounded by jetties, the hullabaloo of the locals and foreigners , he cares for the activists , campaigners  who have gathered for a cause to transform, ignite minds and remind them of the facts they usually ignore blaming the hectic schedules.

He wears a distinct smile throughout the day for the visitors who seek to capture him for keepsake, for the street vendors and photographers to earn a living and be proud of their work. Even after a long day, he doesn’t bogged up by the illumination he is bestowed at night even after all these years.

I feel words aren’t enough to pay tribute to this Jewel of the city. And well, if you wonder about me, then I am his constant companion where you flock to catch a glimpse of him, kneel to take a perfect pose, gather your bags for a scenic experience.

Yes , I am that courtyard before him whom I ardently gaze at  my beloved to the pages of history, the print of the present and ink of the future.

PANDORATHON- POETIC TWIST WITH ADVERTISEMENT TAG LINES

As The King of good times plonked his bum into the couch
After a hearty lunch, he sipped on Fresh N juicy Frooti
He felt a rush of blood gushing through his veins
That seemed to saying Where ever you go, our network follows
As his son who was known for his Bajate Raho attitudes
Had this time managed to create yet another ruckus
The Unputdownable kid was Born Tough with ideas
Had successfully placed a dart upright on the couch to aim it
vertically.
What could the poor king do,
After all, he wondered in pain, Tedha hai par mera hai
As the son kept mumbling Daddy,  Jiyo sar utha ke!

Kingfisher : The King of Good Times
Frooti : Fresh N Juicy
Hutch : Where ever you go , our network follows

Is Ethos of Poetry Lost or Gained?

poetry ethos

In this microscopic world of Twitter and Instagram, where we articulate our thoughts in bite- sized spaces. What is that essence of words which resonated for centuries through diaries now having a digital vision lead to?

Life has been an ongoing tale of mystery spiced up with a battle of sweetness and sourness. Often people used to sit down to pour their feelings into words after a long day. The moment of happiness is probably an assurance, that the soul seeks inwardly. Well, over the years, that has been not just a refuge, but a place where you could be yourself unjudged.

Small group of people gathered to celebrate poetry recalling the legends of their times and also appreciate the new that weaved a tale of their own. Now spoken poetry has taken over riding on their voices that sometimes dilute the very words it meant to share. It is being broken, sneered and also slammed(Slam poetry).

Writing itself was a intricate voyage of mind and heart that would sync the writer with his/her readers. Does it always today? The once long poems that would be occupy page(s) now confines to a mere few lines. Do we blame our attention capacity now or feelings have been too chaotic to infuse a ‘Sonnet‘ or more complex ‘Villanelle’. Grammar which was once an essence of impactful poetry is hammered in the name of humour, instant gratification. It has successfully developed a niche to read quick poetry having its own cult status.

Today, the definition of being cool and in the league demands we whip a new dish not knowing whether it deserves more salt or sugar. In era of digitization, poetry has got itself into its own Rebranding. It has been boon for many of them who get a chance to share their work getting them more visibility and connected community. Eg: Insta Posts, haikus.

In gamut of writing, and the whirlwind world of publishing, which took ages (read :months or even years), today poets have entered the world of literary festivals, writing contests, anthologies etc. Self publishing has thus created its own niche justifying its ethos.

Pandorathon-8-May 2020- Mona Lisa and Kantabai

Mona, dear Mona
I know it has taken so long
To capture you into my art that feels like a endless song
Time will take note of every effort and pain
That will withhold its own aura and you will reign

Mona, dear Mona
Sit still like this
Just like other day felt like a bliss
Your effortless poise attracts me so more
The artist in me has found its destiny and core

Mona, dear Mona
How well you emote through your eyes I say
I need to perfectly sketch it before I paint

Leo, dear Leo
Can I take a two minutes break
I will get us some water
For both's sake

Mona, dear Mona
Came you so early
In this dim light, you look so eloquent like goddess fairy
Wipe off that tinge of red on your lips
Water did you have or a milkshake of strawberry dips?

Mona, dear Mona
I feel something special about you now
With the addition of that flower on your crown
The fall of your hair over your shoulders make me amaze
Did I hear a tinkle on your feet or me feeling dazed?

Mona, dear Mona
How exquisite you look with that curve on your hip
Next time sure I will capture it without a slip
Ah, did I see your belly button or did I imagine it all
I know, but remember the patience will see its glory tall

Mona, dear Mona
Look here at me
Let me capture your eyes
Though looks kohled more than twice
Smile dear beauty, with all grace
This is art is in tribute of your praise

Leo, dear Leo
Did you not clearly see
I am here standing at this corner
And you are so lost in this new found beauty

Kantabai, dear Kantabai
Who did you let in thee
Here is a lady
Who tried to impersonate me

Monaji O Monaji
Aho, mee aali,
Oops, my bad
Sorry please sorry
Ah, dear Kantabai
Don't you giggle like that,
At once, I will sue you
For jeopardising my life with hardly a combat

Mona, dear Mona
What have I done
Apologies for this, my mind is on a run
Paint will I not now for sure
Patience is what I need to get cured
My heart feels heavy, all emotions tanked
This art is managed to hold its own in everything it is flanked.

Aho, mee aali(Marathi language) - I am coming
